Yuck.

Along with the delightful photo, above, the Barack Obama Tumblr posted this:

President Obama ordered a raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan, eliminating the man responsible for the 9/11 attacks and the only leader al Qaeda had ever known.

And the post was tagged “#voting for Obama because.”

Here’s the thing:

I understand that killing someone we really don’t like is a huge feather in Obama’s cap because a lot of Americans like it when people we don’t like are executed.

But I’m more than a little tired of hearing that it’s justice. That’s one way of thinking about justice, a very old way. But there are other ways to think about justice and it would be nice if we were a little bit more critical about what justice entails rather than forever equating it with revenge in the most simple-minded way possible.

I’d like to believe that “Four More Years” might mean that we can do better than “You Hurt Me, I Hurt You Back” … but that’s clearly not going to happen.
