Hey, lets make it so that Greenhouse Gases aren't pollutants!
Oh wait, that would be completely contradictory to all available research on the subject.
But of course, that won’t stop the trusty GOP from trying to do it anyway. Thanks to the craftily named Energy Tax Prevention Act, sponsored by Frederick Upton (R-MI), greenhouse gases are one house and a signature away from officially being stripped from the list of pollutants. This would be mostly symbolic, except for the fact that doing this would mean that the EPA would not be able to regulate them anymore, seeing as the Clean Air Act only allows the EPA to regulate pollutants.
In reality, I have no doubt that the Senate will shoot this bill down. However, the fact that the GOP is attempting to completely deregulate the production of greenhouse gases is most definitely newsworthy. I mean, regardless of whether or not most GOP Congressmen accept science about climate change, deregulating harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and methane is just plain irresponsible. Inhaling carbon dioxide can lead to lung problems in the future. Also, carbon dioxide build-up in water lowers the pH of the water, making it more acidic. This can kill fish and other aquatic life, destroying whole ecosystems, and methane can do the same.
So… really GOP? I get it, those nice gas and oil companies donate a lot of money to your campaigns, but is it worth selling the health of Americans down the river?
